The Rataul mango is a medium-sized fruit known for its exceptional aroma, sweetness and delicious taste. It originates from the village of Rataul in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh and is known for its firm, fiber-free flesh and excellent shelf life.

Historical significance

  • Developed in the village of Rataul by Sheikh Mohammed Afaq Faridi, who discovered the variety in 1917.
  • Faridi, who was called the “Mango King” by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, founded the SHOHRA-E-AFAQ NURSERY in 1928 and cultivated 461 mango varieties.
  • The Rataul mango gained international recognition in 1935 when it won first prize at an exhibition in London.
